Water: Drink Your Water From Plastic or Glass - Part 1

Water

The glass bottle is a practical solution...

Hey Valued Friend,

Sure, glass can break, that's not a problem.

If you weigh the pros and cons, considering all the problematic substances in plastics, the breakability of glass is like...not a drama, right?

Okay, if it breaks replace it and live happily ever after, I mean the replacement cost is cheap:

  • Try this on for size...only $1.60

TIP: I get glass bottles from the local supermarket or the health food store.

And guess what?

You can certainly use bottles that were used previously, like ice tea is usually sold in glass bottles.

The Tazo brand of teas has a 13.8 oz. bottle that is fairly thick glass and short enough to refill conveniently, with a wide enough spout to allow in some small ice cubes or slice of lemon.

Once you get used to carrying glass you re-adjust your thinking.

In my experiences, it's just as easy as plastic bottles, and its small size fits better in a purse or briefcase.

Wella, now you can use glass with pride intact, its natural, too.

Cheers, and thanks for reading, here's to your excellent health.

Water: Drink Your Water From Plastic or Glass - Part 1

Water

Plastic is fantastic, another reminder to drink your water in glass...

Hey Valued Friend,

Well, its been a while since I've had a chance to catch up with you.

Thanks for your time, I appreciate you.

Yes plastic is all the rage, and plastic polycarbonate bottles like Nalgene are very popular as drinking water bottles.

Did you know plastic bottles are made from a chemical substance called polycarbonate, which releases a toxic chemical known as bisphenol A.

Okay, so the plastic industry doesn't feel safety is a big issue.

According to their studies, they've found no significant health effects from typical daily doses of bisphenol A.

Of course, a full 90% of government studies found harmful health effects:

  • Especially to children and expecting moms
  • Also for male sexuality and reproduction as well
  • The problem is that bisphenol A acts as a "xenoestrogen,"

"Exeonestrogen" means it's like the female hormone estrogen, except for two things:

  • "Xeno is foreign to the body
  • It's significantly more harmful than natural estrogen, both male and female
  • Breast cancers are at higher risk in women who contain higher levels of xenoestrogens
  • Both male and female are subject to a huge range of other harmful health effects
  • The most far-reaching effects are birth defects and miscarriages
  • Another effect is a disruption of beta cell function in the pancreas, which creates a pre-diabetes type condition of high blood insulin and insulin resistance...

Take note: Never leave a plastic water bottle on a hot car seat, because the phthalates used in the manufacture of plastics leach into the water that you then drink.

Phthalates are another form of xenoestrogen...

However, with the polycarbonate bottles it has been found that even at room temperature, bisphenol A leaches into the water, and more so with increased temperature.

The other news is this...

Also with repeated use of plastics, you may notice the fine line scratches that you see on an old plastic container.

These increase the surface area exposed to the liquid inside releases more of the xenoestrogens into the water.

In other words if you're health conscious, ditch the plastic bottles and go back to good ole' glass, end of story.

Stay tuned for Part 2...

Acne: Acne Problems?

Acne

Did you know according to research..."milk can be the culprit to acne problems"

Dear Friend,

Milk is supposed to be good for you, but it might not be so good for a teenager's complexion. Dermatologists seem to agree that something in milk and dairy products may be linked to teenage acne, which may explain why hormones and bioactive molecules in milk could be the culprit.

Specificially the iodine found in milk, which can be still at a significant level, including milk in the U.S., Britain, Denmark, Norway and Italy.

You see, farmers give their cows iodine-fortified feed to prevent infection, and they use sanitizing iodine solutions on their cows' udders and milking equipment.

Thanks for reading. At least this give syou something to think about...and while you're out it, why not give milk a miss for a while and see if your acne clears.

Alternative medicine: Considering Acupuncture?

Alternative medicine

Dear Friend,

Acupuncture has been a part of Chinese medicine for more than 2,000 years, and is becoming an often-used technique in today's world of alternative medicine.

The procedure involves a series of very fine needles, inserted just below the skin in specific areas called acupoints. Acupuncture usually does not hurt, and the needles are typically only left in the skin for a few minutes.

The American Cancer Society says that, while acupuncture is not a scientifically proven treatment, some people find that it eases nausea associated with chemotherapy. Others have found it helpful in relieving symptoms of asthma, headaches, back pain and other musculoskeletal pains.

When searching for an acupuncturist, the ACS stresses that you should be sure to find one who is well trained and uses clean, sterile utensils in a proper environment.

Improperly practiced, acupuncture may lead to infections, dizziness, internal bleeding, and nerve damage. People with cardiac pacemakers and other internal electrical devices should talk to a physician before having acupuncture.

9 of the biggest reasons why Spinach is King?

Do you like fish???

Some people feel we need to eat fish to get our good oils.

Well, by including spinach in your diet you can take advantage of the same essential fatty acids that re found in fish.

These omega 3 nutrients can help keep the heartbeat regular, reduce the level of fatty substances in the blood and prevent blood clots from forming in the coronary arteries.

Dear Lifestyler,

How are you doing...thanks for reading, I appreciate you.

* It's all nutrients - it is rich in both iron and calcium and is an excellent source of beta-carotene, chlorophyll, vitamin C, riboflavin and potassium.

* It goes with everything--very versatile veggie.  Chop it raw into salads or mix in with cooked food and is great for juicing with carrots, etc.

* If you are planning a baby, or are already pregnant, spinach should be top of your list.  Just 100g provides ¾ of an adult's daily requirements and it is easily absorbed.

* Protection - those who are at risk of cancer, would benefit from adding spinach to regular meals or juice.  The vegetable is one of the richest sources of protective carotenoids - containing more than other dark green fruits and veggies.

* Eye Sight - it is two of the carotenoids (lutein and zeaxanthine) that play an essential role in protecting your eyesight.  These have also been found to help reduce the risk of colon cancer.

* Blood-boosting - the iron and chlorophyll in spinach helps to build the blood, while its sulphur content helps clean the liver and relieve herpes irritations.  It is both a diuretic and laxative.

* Fight signs of aging - spinach contains high levels of antioxidants, which help keep us healthy and young.  Antioxidants are responsible for fighting free radical, which harm cells and DNA and cause aging.

* Getting your vits - Green leafy veggies, such as spinach are an excellent source of vitamin C.  This nutrient is essential to help the immune system, encourage wound healing and protect against some forms of cancer.  Our bodies cannot store the vitamin, so it is important to top up levels each day, particularly if your are prone to colds and infections.

TO GET MAXIMUM BENEFIT FROM SPINACH, EAT IT RAW TO RETIN THE NUTRIENTS THAT COOKING DESTROYS.

Immune System: Blue with envy, is sugar okay for another day!

Immune System

Thanks for reading today's tips for Your Healthy Blood Sugar...
You're going to be really mad if you miss this insider's secret.

Shhhh...be very, very quiet I'm sending you this for a very good reason.
Listen closely: Sugar has always been sweet and tempting and yeah it's addictive, too.

But here’s the catch.

Sugar literally reconfigures your brain and body on a cellular level.
---
You're most likely already aware that a lifetime of eating a high-sugar diet, and too many carbohydrates, is a real concern.

Why?
---
If you really want to get healthy...

Hello Lifestyler,

Oh and hey, one more thing...
For decades “health nuts,” including yours truly, have been jumping up and down ranting on about blood sugar!

Hmm, are you paying attention, lol.

Did you know if you did just one simple thing like added blueberry tea to your diet, this can help you to maintain blood sugar levels in the normal range.

You see, if you're smart, the fact is blueberry leaves (Vaccinium myrtillus L.) have been used traditionally in folk medicine to promote healthy blood sugar levels and insulin function.

Blueberry leaves are 10-15% chlorogenic acid, which may help to inhibit the enzyme in your liver that forms glucose.

Blueberry may help to inhibit the breakdown of glycogen, which is the sugar that’s stored in your muscles:
  1. Split the food you eat into several smaller meals throughout the day
  2. If you normally eat a sandwich at noon, split it and eat half at your normal lunchtime and the other half mid-afternoon
  3. Don’t skip meals, especially breakfast
  4. Skipping meals signals your body that you are going into a starvation mode, (your body will automatically reduce your metabolic rate)
  5. Avoid artificial sweeteners (the sweet taste in your mouth triggers the release of insulin, even though there might not be any sugar present)
  6. Avoid soft drinks and all fruit juices, regardless of how they're sweetened
  7. Start exercising (for at least) a minimum of 15 minutes a day
  8. Exercise increases lean body tissue, aids in burning fat plus increases sensitivity to insulin, enabling the pancreas to produce less insulin
  9. Exercise raises your metabolic rate...

If you want to take this one step further, up another notch, then I'd suggest Gymnema sylvestre for an extra support and blood sugar advantage.

The leaves of the plant contain gymnemic acids, which research suggests helps to slow transport of glucose from the intestines into the bloodstream.

This may also help to support blood sugar in the normal range.

And recent studies suggest that 400 mg per day of gymnema extract, along with a healthy diet, decreased fasting glucose levels and promoted normal serum lipid levels.

In other words promote natural healthy blood sugar, and help maintain normal sugar tolerance, triglycerides, blood lipid and LDL cholesterol levels.

Stay tuned for the next issue where I'll explain the best approach for helping to keep your blood sugar levels in check.
(There's my insider's tip...hope you're quick enough to grab it and run)

Yours truly,

Immune System

Alternative Medicine: A breakfast anti-cancer recipe!

Alternative Medicine
Here's a delicious breakfast breakthrough...
The two main ingredients in this recipe can prevent, and even cure, cancer.
Do you know what these two ingredients are?
Hi lifestyler,
Thanks for reading todays health boosting recipe.
This flaxseed oil and cottage cheese recipe is short and sweet (no pun intended)...
Note: You must make sure the oil is freshly cold-pressed because flaxseed oil (also called Linseed Oil) becomes rancid quickly, at which point it becomes toxic within days.
Combine the following ingredients:
1 banana mashed
1 apple
grated 1 lemon (juiced)
Then follow these easy to do directions to mix together:
8 teaspoons cottage cheese, yogurt or ricotta 4 tsps
Linseed (flaxseed) oil

Freshly grind:
8 tsps of a mélange of grains (wheat, rye, barley, oats)
4 tsps linseeds or almonds
(You can substitute the banana by adding a few tiny drops of Stevia, although in my opinion the banana gives a smoother taste with enough sweetening already.)
